Dhanteras

Dhanteras is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Vikram Samvat Hindu Calender month of Kartthik. This year Dhanteras is on 25th October. On Dhanteras Lakshmi Puja is performed in evenings when tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away the shadow of evil spirits. On this day people gather and play cards and gamble. At many places a Diwali Mela is hosted on this day where people buy things.

Chhoti Diwali

This is the day before main Diwali. It is also know as Naraka Chaturdasi or Chhoti Diwali. It is believed that on this day Lord Krishna destroyed demon Naraka Sur. So it is the day of worship of Lord Krishna

Diwali

On the first day of Moon or on Amavasya night, Diwali is celebrated. On this day every where you will see the lights of different types. People decorate their home, shops and workplaces with electric ladi, jhalar,bulbs,electric lamps and many lighting equipment. Children burst crackers and play with crackers over the night. Exchange of sweets occurs among neighbours, family and friends.

Goverdhan Puja

It is believed that on this day Lord Krishna defeated Devraj Indra. Every Hindu know very well that when Indra showed his anger in the form of heavy rain and wind on Brajwasi, Lord Krishna lifted the Goverdhan Mountain to give shelter to Brajwasi. On this day Lord Krishna broke the pride of Indra.
This day people worship the Lord Krishna and Goverdhan Mountain.

Bhaiya Dooj

This is the 5th day of  Diwali period and as the name indicates, it is the day of brothers and sisters. Just like Rakhi/Rakshabandhan this festival is dedicated to brothers and sisters.
